New ‘abnormal’ lifestyle! When all we consume is chemicals on our food platter
A chemist on every road? A hospital at every corner? More and more medicines for sale for symptoms that are being created every day?
And if we do have so many medicines and facilities to cure us, shouldn’t the rate of diseases be going down drastically? But what do you see happening - more illnesses, more dependency on pills and more side effects in people too...
Instead of us being more healthy collectively, we are left striving for better health. That is the paradox we face today. Our elders and ancestors lived much healthier and fulfilling lives. So what has changed between then and now?

The primary difference is food. If you compare what your elders ate vis-a-vis what we eat today you will note a drastic difference. In the earlier times food was eaten seasonally - this includes food grains, vegetables, fruits and even spices. Certain recipes were made on particular occasions just to combat seasonal changes and the resulting changes in our bodies.
In contrast to that, today we have all sorts of fruits available to us through the year because cold storage units store them for an entire year. Everything that is not seasonal needs preservatives to keep it in an edible form through the year. So essentially, we are ingesting more chemicals than real food.
In the earlier times, people lived healthier lives because their food was freshly prepared and was in accordance with the season. Which is why food itself served as medicine! It automatically protected from seasonal diseases and provided the right nutrition according to the weather.
On the other hand, today we eat food that gives us a plethora of illnesses as side effects. People are suffering from allergies, acidity, bloating rampantly and at very young ages. And then, to counter these side effects there are more pills and medicines being consumed with no real change in the symptoms.
We all know that certain chemicals together tend to cause a reaction of its own. Similarly, certain medicines cause other reactions for example, consuming antacids have a long term effect on our renal functions, an excess of calcium pills may cause stone in the body etc etc.
Let us make simple daily changes in our lifestyle and food habits and understand how to make our food work like medicine for us.

At Roots & Origin, we revel in Mother Nature’s bounty and accept her gifts in the purest form and try to keep them as pure as possible while creating healthful goodies for all ages.
